Satirical website uses freedom in Christ to not be funny

News

Yes it’s true!  The authors of this satirical website have embraced the full depth of the freedom that Christ offers.

Editor, John Spencer, who often talks about himself in the third person, had this to say, “The world tries to mould us and make us conform to its expectations. One of those is that satirical websites should be funny.  But in Christ we have realised that we no longer have to conform to the world but can have our minds renewed (Rom 12:2).”

We asked John (or more accurately John asked himself) how this freedom has helped him respond to readers.

“Well only the other day we had someone on facebook accused us of being a heretic and hence not being funny:”

“Initially I wanted to point out their incorrect assumption about Christians being funny – which could be easily refuted by watching a John Crist video.  But then I remembered Colossians 2:16 where it says ‘Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.’ and I just knew Paul also meant funniness.  So I felt liberated – no longer do I have to conform to this man’s expectation of funniness – I can walk free in Christ to post dull and uninspiring stuff on this website.”

Well there you have it – it was for freedom that Christ has set us free – and what better freedom than seeing a well-loved satirical website post pictures of paint drying.

We feel sad for all those other websites that are bound up in chains by Satan, trying to be funny all the time to please this fallen world.
